My 2G 1998 Eclipse has about 120k miles on it. I just had the clutch replaced, master/slave cyls and my engine mounts.
There is ostensibly a small crack in my head cover, caused when another place did a gasket replace and overtorqued. I haven't replaced that yet because I am poor and it is just leaching a small amount of oil, so I keep checking my levels but otherwise am not too concerned. (Bad call? Why?)
Here's my problem: My car frequently dips way below idle level when putting the clutch in after any level of driving. It will light up the lights and ALMOST-BUT-NOT-QUITE stall, but lately has taken to full on stalling.
Sometimes, this triggers a CEL. I've had it read before, and for ages, it was a Throttle Position Sensor.
Lately, it's reading as a Crankshaft Position Sensor.
Nothing terrible, except now, the car is shutting the engine down, even while in GEAR and sometimes restarting, sometimes not; as if the CPS is throwing an alert and causing the ECU to shut down to prevent damage or some such.
Does this sound about right? How else would a faulty CPS fail? What would cause the car to start randomly cutting out and then instantly back in (in a nasty jerking sensation) or sometimes just stalling out entirely?
Many thanks!
