Alright im new to the dsm world. I own a 95 eclipse gsx its got the 7 bolt in it with the 16g turbo. It had a spun rod bearing when i got it but it would fire right up no problems so i got all new internals and rebuild it with the help of a freind. We got the engine back in the car and use the chiltons manuel for the timing and its just as the book says it should be. I know its getting fuel you can smell it and when you pull the plugs there wet. Havent done a compression test yet but thats the next thing to try but it sounds good. I did some looking and was read the it could be my ect sensor i dont have the radiator in right now just want to here the thing fire up for a second. Do i have to have that in right away?

Any help would be awsome?

if your ect fails it can be really hard to start it,especialy in the cold, so if there is no coolant there the ECT might not read anything.... i would hook up the rad and flow some coolant on that sensor, it might just start up. also have you checked for spark???

compression, spark, fuel, and timing is what you wanna know your getting before you start diagnosing all kinds of sensors too

first of all thanks for the help

Ok so i would assume that it is getting spark because it trys it sputter and almost starts up then it just stops and goes right back to cranking then sputters and so on and so on. But i will go thro tommarow and cheak to see if all the plugs are firing and check the compression as well

that would be a good start, also...when you put your KEY to the '' ON '' position ( position before you start it ) make sure your check engine light turns on for a bit then turns off....if it dosent turn on at all you have ECU problems, either its not getting power or it might be fried....i dont think that would be your case since you said you had it fired up before, and also you said you are getting fuel so probly not the case. but just make sure.

quick question, is it cold where you are?

well sorry for the delay there i got sick. I got out there this afternoon and put a battery in the car and just as i started cranking it fired up and was running really rough the o2 sensor isnt pluged in and the throttle doesnt affect it.

you can here the engine change sounds it gets deeper when the throttle is opened but the rpms dont change. the check engine light does come on for a short time then it turns off

And ya its close to 20 degrees here i havent got the coolent system in the car yet but thats the plan for tommarow mornin

thanks for the help

well so far its just that one day that it fired up and ran im not sure if it was just the weather that caused it to do that or what i havent changed anything sence the time it did start

well i got the car to fire up and run. It runs really rough tho. I started on it today and well it was doing the same stuff just cranking and almost starting. so it thought that maybe i could trick the ect and well it work.

It has a loud ticking sound and i cant seem to find it im not sure where i went wrong in the rebuild but might just be buying another engine thats ready to go Any ideas were to find a cheap one just to get the car on the road or maybe just some help to fix this one if you got ideas
thanks
