I have a stock 92 Tsi, I was wondering if I can crank up the boost without hurting my motor. The motor was rebuilt, and if I can how do I. I'm only boosting at 7lbs right now I wanna do 8 or 10. I just bought this so I'm new to the 4g63t's I have a 99 Gs haha garbage 420a motors. So any help?

do a search and you will learn alot more then JUST the question your asking in about 30 minutes. i know personally i have seen about 7 million threads on this alone. first thing is first. buy a good aftermarket boost gauge. then buy a manual boost controller. stay UNDER 15psi. i am not gonna say it is SAFE to run 14psi on your car ### i dunno your car. but persoanlly all of my cars have been set at 13-14psi on the stock turbo stock tune when they arent modified and i just want the extra little kick. and i haven't had any problems. enjoy the boost. it is addicting like nicotene

It depends on how many miles is on the engine.

Something's wrong with your wastegate system if you're able to make less than what the spring tension of the actuator allows.

Like stated get a boost gauge and a MBC but in the mean time if you seach the Boost control solenoid mod.. There is a little restrictor in it top hole of the solenoid that if you carefully pull that out youll get some more boost.. Do a search on it..

Before you think about cranking up the boost, make sure all of the proper maintenance has been done (I know you said the motor was rebuilt, but how long ago), and you understand the system. Would suggest picking up a logger, so you can watch your IDC's and IPW at boost, stay below 20ms in the IPW. You will need a boost controller and a gauge at minimum.

Just a few

420a's are not bad motors, it's a reliable N/A motor that was made for unleaded gasoline and high MPG's. Just within the last few years, people have started to find out what works with these motors; it's just time and money.

First off he is talking about a 4g63 that is in his 92 tsi... second off all street driver cars are designed for unleaded gas.. Its the octane that matters.. All he needs is a damn boost gauge and a mbc and keep his boost down around 1 bar (14.7 psi)..

Something's wrong with your wastegate system if you're able to make less than what the spring tension of the actuator allows.

I think he is reading his stock boost gauge.. the 7 is the number on that gauge LOL

:nono: I hope you are not targeting my response, because his post was fairly clear that it is a 4g63, hence why my post was broken into two different parts. First part 4g63, second 420a :thumb:

Second, the unleaded part is also obvious, this is implied with a factory 420a car, I guess I should have stated 89 octane, but that would have been redundant :sneaky:

Third, I wouldn't do a single mod to any car if I didn't know what was actually happening, ie. timing, fuel trims, duty cycle.... Logging is your best friend when modding, why risk it for a few extra hp?

Now that i read your post again i see how you broke it up into two different thoughts..

It just annoys me when anyone say unleaded gas and i dk why LOL.. I work in a tool rental and when ever someone says just "unleaded gas right"?? I say well i hope you wouldn't spend the money on putting race gas in.. kinda a smart a$$ remark but owell..

third... It is honestly 2 psi.. from 8psi to 10psi.. In a motor with 7.8cr that is mostly stock( lower cr= less knock prone).. That is like saying don't ever go WOT without logging your car and knowing what is happening. I understand your thought process but i highly doubt he will blow that motor up if he performs a BLT and did basic maint/tune up at 10psi...
