Hello, i recently did a 6-bolt swap, with a 7-bolt head. I got the 6-bolt timing cover on and started to put all the accesories and belts on, looking back at some old pictures, before is sent the motor off, I had a 1997 gst 7-bolt motor, It had the 7-bolt 97-99 head with the CAS that was on the left side, bolted to the intake cam. Then there was a crank trigger and sensor. Well no the 6-bolt motor doesnt have the crank plate or the trigger, the shop that built the motor said I can run the motor with just my CAS. So, do i need a crank plate/trigger afterall????

thank you!!

I am not entirely sure, if you are still running the same ecu, then I would suggest you still need to run them. You can find a very detailed description at magnus motorsports. That is where I would go check if I were you. Good luck. Good to see more people from Michigan on here.

yeah, magnus gives me, additional notes to not swap the spark plugs or injectors, thats not what i need.
Anyone else have an idea?!

You're gonna have to run with a 1G CAS and get the harness that plugs into the CAS and the harness side of the stock CAS and crank sensor (a number of supporting venders on DSMtuners sell this harness, its a lot easier than doing all the wiring and looks very clean)

You can't just run the 7bolt CAS by itself cause the ECU still has to read the crank sensor also...a 1G CAS by itself has everything the ECU has to read in the CAS itself

ok that sounds great, but will a 1g CAS even fit on 97-99 2G head, and is the bolt through the intake cam still used? Thanks.

Can iget some more insight on this? So with a 1G CAS i dont need a trigger palte or crank sensor??
