Crank Sensor help!

Ok so i just finished rebuilding my 7-bolt (please no 6-bot swap lectures, i've herd them all) and I got it all together, but no start, engine just cranked and cranked with no fireing. So i hooked up my scanner, and it said Crank angle sensor malfuntion.

When i was putting the sensor back in, i bolted it up but it just didnt seem right. It was about an inch from the t-belt gear, with seemingly nothing to pass by and 'triger' it. If someone could describe how it works, (magnetic pickup, ive herd of a wheel on a 1G) and what I may be missing that would be very very helpful.

Also a picture would be a thousand words!

There should be a thin plate that goes between the two cog belt gears(balancer &timing) on the end of the crank. The plate has two cut outs that create the magnetic signal.

Just for reference, there is another similar thread going on just a few lines down the page.

If it is indeed your crank angle sensor, the only remedy would be replacement. But then again, why is broken in the first place?
I'll save you the lecture cause you've heard it, but I'm no example. 7 bolt 4 lyfe.

thanks for the replies, sorry i just noticed that post after i posted mine. But i wanted a little more detailed info about the sensor, which I got. Tomarow im pulling my t-belt cover off and im gunna see whats goin on. If every thing looks ok, I think im going to jsut replace it.
