96 eagle talon tsi 4g63t 7 bolt --- hey guys can ya give me some insight does the crank shaft pulley have to go back on a certain way for the cps to read it correctly i know its suppose to read the teeth on the inside of the pulley "i believe" i took it off using the 4, 12mm bolts not the center bolt??

there should be a pin that lines up the pulley to put it back on

It lines up with a notch on the gear. That's the only way it should go on.. it shouldn't affect how your CPS reads.

The only things that affects the way your CPS reads is the plate behind the gear, which you NEED to remove the "middle nut" to get at.

Er yeah, it's more of a pin, not a notch.

i didn't remove the pulley using the middle bolt i remove it using the 4 12 mm bolt it has no problem going back on in any order i can spin it on there and any hole will line up with any hole.. now i am sure if i took it off using the center main bolt it would have the codder key

I assume you mean the harmonic damper?

If so, look at the 3 o'clock position. You'll see a pin sticking through the damper. This is how you will line it up, as that pin should be sticking out of the crank pulley (which you posted a picture of above).

thank you sooo much dont know if this will fix my problem yet wont know till tomorrow .. do you know if this not being on right with the dowel pin at 3'oclock will cause my coil to not fire ?? meaning roll over but no spark?? and with the dowel pin at 3'oclock is first cylinder tdc? all timing marks right on?

wait... your saying that pin should be sticking out of the tbelt gear and a hole on the harmonic balancer will slide over it?

Look on the outer edge of the pulley, between the ribs for the belts. You should see a small notch. Use a white paint pen and mark that notch. When you are lining up the 4 holes in the pulley, to the crank sprocket, make sure your little notch is pointed at the T on the lower timing cover. That's so you can correctly set your base timing.

that's right

it doesn't matter, your coil will all the way work right. if you somehow manage to install pulley without sliding it over that dowel pin, it will only cause that you won't be able to check timing with timing gun correctly. everything else would work fine
