Check for spark and fuel and reply.

That would be a good place to start.

Try either pulling a plug and putting it back in the wire and grounding it out, or sticking a screw driver in the wire while someone cranks the car over. If you have spark pull the high presure line off the fuel rail and put it in a bucket while someone cranks the car over and see if you have fuel and how much. If you have neither fuel nor spark, you have a problem with you MPI relay. Once you have tested for that you will have somewhat of a dirrection on what to do or test next.

okay thanx ill go check that right now this cars driving me crazy 4 yrs of randomness going wrong

Also try throwing in some punctuation so its easier to read your posts. Fuel, spark and timing are needed to start the motor. Check those

ok took of all the plugs they all look good but smell like gas really bad guessing from me cranking it trying to start it...one plug seemed moist .....so to check for spark i just stick a screwdriver in the spark plug wire right and see it visually ### thats what im doing and see nothing just tested the coil and its within specs how do i check if its getting power...could it have been a fuse burned out last night i dunno where to look fuses are all good ??

If you pull the ignition wire off the plug and lay it on your valve cover there will be sufficient voltage to jump to ground. Or if you could stick a spark plug in the now disconnected wire and ground the plug to the chassis. To troubleshoot your ignition sequence you could check for control voltage pulses at the coil pack, then the power transistor (which amplifies the ecu output to trigger the coils), then the ecu output itself (there should be an ecu pinout floating around somewhere). Use a test light to verify the ignition control pulse. If you still can't find a pulse then you should verify your cam position sensor input. The ecu pinout will show you where to probe while a friend turns the motor over for you.

Forgot to mention you have to ground the screwdriver to something, if it is sparking it should be easily seen.

It can't be a bad coil pack, I had way to many of them fail on me in my 2g and it would just drop down to two cylinders, as long as there is compression it will run on 2 cylinders, just awful! I'd say power to the coil pack would be a good guess. Try testing it and let us know. Also there is a relay in the fuse box under the hood I believe it is for the power to the coil pack, but I'm not sure. I know it controls spark for sure though.

ok first off thank you everybody who has posted trying to get me back in my dsm, so ive been looking through the forums testing different things....my cel light comes on in the on position for 5 secs so ecu should be fine, i hear the mpi relay of the passenger side kick panel click so its ok i believe, my battery and starter grounds are fine, windows and stereo work headlights work and dim a bit when cranking all relays and fuses seem fine none are burned im stumped how does this happen over night :banghead: help any ideas ?? oh i also remember hearing a whine i guess the fuel pump prime of something from under the hood everytime i used to start my car and now its gone:/

one question my timing belt is tight and all marks seem to be aligned i just need to take the cover off to make sure but if it had jumped timing i would hear noises right if the valves were bent and it sounds fine craning just wont fire up....hooked up a scanner and got no codes im stumped help me....any one close to by that can come check it out

First, make sure you ground the screw driver when checking for spark. If you still dont seem to be able to get spark, you can always put your finger by the wire. I know this is not the best way to do it but if it is sparking you will feel it and it only gets you for a second. I would however only try that if you have not yet seen spark with screw driver or spark plug or just putting the boot on something metal.

After verifying you have spark, check for fuel. I wouldnt jump to thinking that it is timing just yet since it was fine when you turned it off last and just never started in the morning. Perhaps your fuel pump was on its last leg.
