Winnipeg,
So this weekend my buddies and I picked up a 1998 Talon TSI AWD. Not running, for $900. Dealership gave the kid a big story about 2500$ repair. Brought it home, and it was Crank Angle sensor, which is super weirdly different on a 1998. So...because we bought this as a parts car, I didnt want to spend money on the sensor, so I searched on these forums. Alot. In the end, I easily swapped in a 1g cam/crank angle sensor, it eliminated the other 2 sensors, and vroom- she runs great. Can even adjust base timing now.

This is a thank you to all that post, and post their solutions!

Green one is my project currently, and the parts car we got for 900 we are parting for mine and buddies cars

Thanks, yup, $900. Im just stoked for the spoiler (been looking forever)
and interior for the green one, and of course, a black hood :)

It looks great but pretty rough on rockers and strut towers. Boys want the parts :) Thank you for the offer tho- Ive had the same dilema go thru my head 100 times LOL

donniekak - I will check that, you guessing it tore up the sensor? Now I'm intrigued LOL

You could tell if that was the failure mode by looking at the old sensor. If the reluctor wheel chewed it up, it's a huge chance that the crank thrust is toast.

Sometimes they do just fail on their own though.
