My car seems to be leaning out badly while driving. Checked the entire ignition and spark system and everything checks out fine, but when I took out the injectors the particulate screens were clogged with crap. Cleaned them out and replaced the fuel filter, which had some nice black ooze flowing out of it, and that made things much better.
The car is drivable now but anything over half throttle or so and the car starts bucking like mad. Haven't had a chance to get a look at the pump but it seems to be pointing at a bad tank from the car not being stored properly and having the wrong fuel in it. Ethanol like to break down and leave water in the tank, which would eat away at it nicely.
Anyone else ever run into this? Any other suggestions as to what could cause this if it ends up not being my pump?

same with my car. sat for 5 plus years with e10 in it, tank was disgusting and the pump/lines/filter were all gross.

id say its a dead ringer for the pump if you ignition checks out and youve gone through the rest of the fuel system.

do you have a way to log? could always check that when youre going through that situation.

Long term fuel trim while driving says the system is trying to run 12-13% richer than it should need to. Second O2 sensor isn't reading but that won't do anything but throw a CEL.

From my experience it could be a few other options before the fuel pump yet. When you clean injectors its not always sufficient to shoot carb cleaner in each end because its not cleaning the selinoid. To do this get a phone cord that puts out 3.7 volts. Doesnt matter which wires you touch as long as the selinoid moves and you spray carb cleaner through it. From there if that doesn't fix it id look into cleaning the tank because a fuel pump doesn't half way go out. It would be more that its clogged only allowing a smaller amount of fuel. Also with the fuel breaking down over a long period of time should be taken care of by pumping the old gas out or putting an additive in thwt cwn be bought from most auto part stores.
Hope this helps!

In the next couple days my dad and I are going to be dropping the tank and cleaning it out completely as well as replacing the pump. After that I'll look at cleaning the injectors properly once we get things cleaned and flushed. I have a set of new screens for them and a second new fuel filter so everything should be nice and fresh once I'm finished.
