when ever i start my car it makes like a crackling/ sorta grinding sound, but it only happens after my car has been sitting for a period of time like over night , etc., but when ive been driving around and its been sitting only for a short period of time it starts fine! maybe its the starter, or i dont know, anyone have any ideas on what it is or how it can be fixed?? thanks.....

More than likely, it is your starter 'sticking' a little.
You can take out the starter, clean it up and it would more than likely fix your problem.

Pull your battery terminals, clean them and re-cut them, make sure the starter cables are tight and clean, check the ground connections, and after all that's done, reconnect the battery terminals. Use the little felt anticorrosion washers under the terminals, and make sure you have a vinyl cover over the positive.

I have the exact same problem, it only makes the noise in the morning when I leave for work and 8hrs later when i leave work. It doesn't seem to be engine threatening but I would like to fix it, I'd like to try what defiant said, but unfortunately i have no idea where any of the parts he mentioned are, or even what they do. still a newbie i guess.
