Well today i finally got my 420a started for the first time with the standalone megasquirt ecu, and turbo conversion. It still needs a downpipe but i couldnt wait to see if it would start. It smoked fiercely, and it was blowing oil out the turbo and wastegate dump from the manifold. Nothing else could ruin the mood anymore. I know it was not like this before because i ran it multiple times, and even once with the manifold/turbo bolted on. I know oil in the exhaust means a few bad things, maybe cracked block, head gasket or valve seals. This upsets me because earlier this month i was checking everything as i just bought the car and was doin a little winter maintenance. I noticed the previous owner only had water in the radiator. It was not frozen but slushy so i immediately pulled the hoses and ran the nibco on the block for a while til it all melted and ran out. I sure hope its not a cracked block but i know its a possibility with the coolant deal. What all can i do to narrow it down to one of the culprits? one problem is it really doesnt run great as i still have alot of tuning to do, so driving it a few miles is out of the question. will a compression test help? any help would be great, i was soo excited to finally get it started, and this setback is devastating

A compression test will narrow it down to which cylinder and a leak down test will determine the area effected. normally the block will not crack as that is the reason for freeze plugs to prevent that from happening but there are exceptions

Give me a call or text later and I can come help you figure this out if you want. I literally don't have shit to do tomorrow.

well tyeler18 stopped over today and we performed a compression test. All four cylinders test good at a constant 150lbs. I hope this rules out cracked head/block, or head gasket. Tyeler said maybe its the turbo seal, i pulled the charge pipe and there is no trace of oil in the piping or turbo outet. Could the turbo be pumping oil back into the manifold? I will next try and run it with the turbo off of the manifold and see if it helps. Does this narrow it down to valve guides or seals?
