It's just a little tiny crack about an inch long. Not very deep, kind of looks like a scratch but I'm almost 99% sure it's not a scratch. Is this anything to worry about?

It's on the top of the manifold, noticed it when I took the heat shield off.

If it is indeed a crack then you need to get it replaced/fixed. Has your turbo been spooling any slower? Even if it hasn't you really need to get it fixed. An exhaust leak before the turbo is not good for the car. Anything after the turbo is OK.

Rule of thumb. ;)
Bigger the crack the slower the spool.

Even if the housing is not expelling exhaust gas you need to address the issue you WILL have later. For the price of everything nowadays, I would give a ported EVO manifold a shot. They are not that expensive anymore.

Well see, the crack doesn't really go through the whole manifold. Like I said, it looks like a scratch. So with it even being that small, how soon should I have it looked at and who should I have look at it?

Here's some pics.

Where's the best place to buy one of those?

Alright, thanks a lot.

Could anybody look at the picture and tell if it's a serious problem that I would really need to get a new manifold right now? Bec/ money's kind of tight right now.

it could be worse (gaping holes) but wihtout pressure testing it there is almost no way to know the extent of the damage. visually inspecting it won't yield any definate answers, just get it replaced as soon as you can. On a side note if you think it is a scratch try a little sandpaper on it...if it's a scratch it'll go away, if it's not then you may make matters worse if that has become a thin spot...

Alright, thanks. Should I take it to the Mitsu dealership or an exhaust shop and have them look at it?

Just replace it with a ported one. The extra cash is worth it if you are modding the car.

That's funny, I noticed the exact same crack today. I'm not having a problem with boost pressure though. Wonder if JB Weld can withstand the high temps. :D

From what I've heard, JB Weld (even high temp stuff) doesn't do well in exhaust temperature areas. I know for sure it will disinegrate off a turbo (hot side) so I assume it would do the same on the manifold. I'd just replace it - for $250 you can get that SBR one and not worry about it again, plus have a little faster turbo spool up on the side .

JB weld will not work. It will crack again.

Fellas it is not a hard thing to determine. Get a new manifold and be done with it. If it is not leaking gas yet (you would hear the sputter) then you have some time to save some cash. Otherwise, replace it. :)

Just have it welded over if you are paranoid. Be sure Inconel rod is used as cast does not like to take welds well. be sure that the surface is properly prpped and the weld extends well beyond the crack.

I just bought an evo3 manifold and I think my project would be better off with a SBR manifold. The manifold is brand new, havent touched it for porting yet, comes WITH 7cm gasket and double layer gasket for head. Ill let you have it for $215 shipped :)

But If you want a REAL cheap replacement, I have a non-cracked Manifold from a 1gFWD turbo car. Its definately a downgrade from a 2g (cracks more easily, but this one isnt cracked yet), but it would great for a spare. Ill sell that one for $30 (or maybe less if you want!). pics are here http://www.dsmtuners.com/classifieds/showproduct.php?product=3374&sort=1&cat=500&page=1

Just keep the EVO. The manifold works great. The SBR one is slightly bigger, but not really worth the swap.

Just my opinion.

Yeh, I guess I wouldnt need it that bad. But since I AM doing a 2.4L and 50 trim project... meh nevermind

Then go with a Equal-length Tubular one if you are going to be wanting maximum effect.

I thought I was spoolin a little slow so after I read this thread I took off my heat shield to find the same crack...How 'bout that
