Orem,
Utah
car is: 93 eclipse gs.
i've always had an exhaust leak. when working on the car when it was dead cold, having someone else start it so i could look under the hood, i could see exhaust come out while first starting the car. i haven't done much with it, as this car cost 300 buck and was bought to get me to and from work. i decided to fix it. i was hoping it was a simple gasket issue, so i picked one up, took off the heat sheild, and found two 2inch cracks in the top of my exhaust manifold. they don't look to be too "open", but i have a few questions.
1) as this car spent 300 bucks, i don't really want to be spending much more. My g/f's dad has access to professional welders and offered to have them weld it for me. Is this sufficient, or is it better to just get a replacement?
2) is a stock replacement better for this car, or an aftermarket one (if offered). i know i'm not going to get a whole lot of power out of it, so this question should be answered with price in mind. is it cheaper to find a stock replacement, or to get an aftermarket header. (i'm not a huge fan of junkyard parts, here in utah, so i would rather replace).
3) i like my poor 136 hp 2.0 n/a to run as well as it can. how much horse, realistically speaking, will i lose with this sort of exhaust leak. i do keep up with other eclipses, i raced a 2g gs and kept up with him (got a foot behind, missed the 3rd gear shift, paying more attention to not killing myself than the rpm), so i don't think i am too far behind what i should be at as far as speed.
i appreciate it in advance.
