could this tell me if my valve are bent

so after my timeing belt snapped im guessing my valves are bent or pistons have holes or most likly both. So im rebuilding it with some friends and just finised pulling the engine. So i took the valve cover off removed the cams and noticed that the valve stems look fine. It seems like maybe its possible my engine just needed to be reblanced could be wrong though. So i was wondering if u could tell by just takeing off the cams if you could see if valves are bent or do i need to remove the whole block?

i would just remove the whole cylender head to be sure, because usually valves are bent one the bottom of the cylender head, and you can't see them just by removing the cams.

eh alright well could you tell me if im going in the right direction in the rebuild of bent valves. If its just valves what are the exact size i need for replacent i want to go a little better then stock. Then i userstand i need new guides is there a spec size i need?

so for a valve job i just need

16 new vavle
guides
springs
retaniers

if pistons are damage i need

new pistons
rods
hone walls
possibly a new 7 bolt block

am i missing anything?

Were any of the rockers knocked off? Usually they get thrown off immediately after the valves are bent due to losing contact with the cam lobe base circle and then being struck by the opening ramp of the lobe. You can also measure valve spring height to determine if any of the valves are bent, -or better yet- perform an actual leakdown test, which is really the most definitive method of proving cylinder sealing. Don't pull the head if you can avoid it.

How are compression test numbers? Is the bottom end in need of a rebuild anyway?

if the belt broke, chances are very good that you bent valves
how bad? you will not know till the head is off, will you need all 16 valves/guides? I cant say, you may only need to replace 4 or 6 valves /guides.
it will depend how fast how many RPM you were turning when the belt let loose.

also when you have the head rebuilt you do not let the shop belt surface your head..

your head should be surfaced like this with the proper RMS finish for the Head Gasket you will use MLS or composite
