Langley,
I just noticed today that my coolant overflow bootle was empty after sitting overnight. stupid me, for the past couple of days the coolant light on my dash had been coming on but for whatever reason I thought it was my battery light. please don't make fun. anyways, I refilled the bottle today but my problem is that it's not leaking anywhere I can see, there was no oil in the coolant and no bubbles on the dipstick so I don't think it's headgasket, unless there is a small crack in it. And, lately I have gotten a rough idle. where is the coolant going? as well, it has gotten colder here lately but I'm not sure that would cause some sort of cooling issues. any ideas?

Haha, well... Whoever came up with the symbol for the coolant light wasn't that artistic, that's for sure.

Anyways, if your headgasket went, there wouldn't be oil in the coolant like you said. There would be coolant in the oil. Your oil would be really thick if that were the case.

If you can get your hands on a compression tester, do a compression test and see where you set. If you still can't find one, drive it for a little bit, then park it and go out and check in 5 to 10 minute intervals and look for any kind of leak.

Get back to us on if you do any of these.

just wanted to add that my exhaust is clear as well, no blue or black smoke.

i may try a compression test. I did one last year and everything was good but obviously a year can do a lot. also, I will take it to the shop after my next paycheque.

I also had the problem of the mysterious disapeering coolant. When I tore the old 7 bolt down it turned out that the water pump had been leaking through the bottom of the gasket and had made a large mess of the timing belt side.
i agree with him ..i also had the same problem GOOD LUCK!!

i had my water pump changed last year and the timing belt done, but i will check there to see if thats the problem. any where else I should look?

I've also had this problem. I've refilled the coolant bottle three times and it's still doing this but there is no fluids dripping down or any wet spots underneath the engine bay. The oil looks fine and normal.

That is strange though It might be something as simple as the bleed valve for your radiator not being tightened down all the way. (the wingnut at the bottom of your radiator)

I replaced the radiator cap with a new one from AutoZone and all the problems went away.
May not fix your situation but for future viewers, try the cap!
