coolant leaking somewhere?

My friends got a 95 Talon TSI AWD and his car is constantly running really hot and messing with his idle and now his coolant is leaking out somewhere n is always empty and just today it overflowed. Does anyone kno what the problem is? He changed the thermostat and its still doing it and we cant figure out whats wrong. Thanks.

-Ummm, , perhaps locating the leak is a good place to start?

yea we tried to its not leaking out of the car onto the ground.. we dont kno where its going.

See if you can get a shop to pressure test the system for you.

It's either leaking at the heater core, in which case it will start to drain into the frame or interior, or worst case like my sister cars, its leaking into the water jackets of the motor and you have a cracked head. Hers was drinking antifreeze and would shoot it out when you filled it and started it form the compression.

-Shop can put dye into the coolant, with a black light, they can locate the leak if it's external.
