I'll keep this short and sweet. Normally I'm just a lurker but I'm nervous and was wondering if I could get some feedback.
General car info: 98 GSX, 7 Bolt, FP Green. Walbro 255 (I think, can't remember), 1100 CC injectors, Mishimoto Radiator, and a bunch of other things. That's all that will really be required for help with my problem.

Short and sweet: Yesterday I was experiencing coolant issues, where I never let my coolant temp exceed the top of the temperature sign on the gauge, still hot: I know. I replaced the thermostat and all was good.

Today I was messing around with a Maserati and he got kind of serious so we did an 80 roll and at about 140 an explosion occurred. I immediately shut the car off. And rolled about 1.5 miles down the highway and off the exit. I proceeded to turn it back on and drive it about .75 miles down to a gas station where I popped the hood and noticed the entire top side coolant hose split in half. I let it sit there for about eight hours. I came back tonight, put the new tube on filled it with coolant and turned it on. It sounded weird, almost muffled. I let it idle and I noticed coolant was being burned and coming out of the exhaust. Immediately shut it off. It only idled for sixty or less seconds. Is this the coolant that maybe the intake sucked in or am I replacing a head gasket tomorrow. I plan on compression testing it first thing in the morning, I just can't sleep.

Thanks for any help.

How would we know. Anything could have happrned. Is it possible you blew a gasket which ecploded the hose? Yup. Do the tests and find out.
True, I didn't think of that. I just spent all summer on this build and I was excited for it. I just can't sleep. You're right though.

That's a serious rip! The fact that it's burning coolant isn't a good sign.My next step would be a compression test and be prepared to do a head gasket. What kind of head gasket are you running?

A coolant hose blown out like that would indicate to me the coolant system saw cylinder pressure. I'd guess a blown head gasket is likely the cause. However, there's also the more extreme end of things where hard parts such and heads and blocks spring leaks. I hope that's not your issue, and that's a much more costly ordeal that a head gasket swap. Before you do anything, go get a cooling system pressure tester from the local parts chain and pressure check the system. I've had blown head gaskets that didn't show under a compression test in the past.

I would encourage you to fill out a DSM profile at your earliest convenience. Having a complete mod list would help others help you in situations like this. Don't half ass it either; the more comprehensive it is, the better the community will be able to help you when you're having an issue. You can reference my mod list for and example of what I'm talking about. What kind of boost were you running? Do you have ARP head studs? All of these things could be factors in what's causing (or caused) your issue...All things that could be easily answered if you had a profile for us to reference.

If you find the head gasket is to blame, let us know. There are many things you can do while you have the car apart to help avoid future blown head gaskets. Installing ARP head studs, for example, would be one of those preventive measures to take if you haven't already.

I would do a hydrocarbon test of the cooling system. It's a one stop shop for blown head gasket diagnosis.

Oh, did it spray any on your face?

That's a pretty offensive name you have there, and it probably would keep any of our female members from assisting you. Maybe I'm old, but I prefer to not piss off 50% of people before I even say anything.
