Spyder Convertible top install? 98 spyder related info?

Hey guys, im looking at getting a 98 spyder and the only issues it has is that it needs a new top a new bumper and a door handle, well since i have my 99 gs( that's not running) I have all the parts but the top, Im just curious on to where to find a top and how hard it would be to replace the top, I have never changed a top so this will be interesting, is there anything I should look for or look out for so I know I have installed the top properly. Thanks again guys. Another thing what all is compatible ( motor wise) between the 4g63 and the 4g64? I think. the 2.4 spyder motor. If anything. Thanks so much guys, with out you guys, I would have to pay for a mechanic. .

I'll respond later with the site I used. It was 475 ish for liner, canvas to (not cheap vinyl), and a few other miscellaneous things. I think it is a Haartz brand top.

I paid 200 for my new black top off ebay (picture in photo is the actual one). I did the job myself with no buddies and various miscellaneous sites to help off the internet and it was a pain the ass. It was my first time and will be my last . I had a shop offer to complete the job for $250, and company who sold me the product offer to complete it for 300-400. Personally I wish I had the shop do it but it was a learning experience so good luck with that. As far as 4g63 vs 4g64 , almost everything is compatible do a bit of search and you will find your answer.

I have been looking at Cabrio World website for a new convertible top as well. I did some research and it looks like it is time consuming and you will end up replacing the parts that you break while taking it apart....

taking it apart is the easy part. Putting it back together and trying to get rid of all the wrinkles is the hard part. Btw heres the place I bought it from:

Both the canvas and vinyl is by far cheaper then the place you were looking at:

The guy was also willing to talk me through the process over the phone if I had any difficulty.

Our tops are cavas from the factory not vinyl. I highly recommend using a canvas due to fade and cracking in vinyl.

...Whats your point? I don't believe I said anything about factory but I do believe I provided a link with both options which are both cheaper then 475.

By the way I have vinyl and have no such problems but to each their own.

Typical dsmer thinking cheap is the best. Look at a lot of newer tops that are vinyl; they crack and fade. No need to get snippy because someones opinion differed from your own.

Btw a lot vinyls do not come with the rear window or defroster.
