2G Convertable top motor removal

I know of a couple people who have taken the motors used to open and close there convertable tops and removed them from there cars to save weight. I was wondering if anyone know of any step-by-step instructions to do this?

Mine are not working right now and i really should take them out. They dont weigh more than 3 pounds each though.

I have a question!!

Can you take them out and will the top still open and close ok manually??
