Condensation or HG?

I was looking at a 98 TSi AWD to purchase and while looking at it (it was dark) I pulled the dipstick out and looked fine for the most part, except I thought I saw some white stuff on it. I didn't think much of it at the time, for whatever reason.

I didn't purchase the car yet but I'd like to go back and look at it again, but it's 3 hours away. I don't want to drive all the way back out there if it's a HG failure. The white/mayonnaise-y stuff spanned an inch above the "full" line. The oil on and below the full line looked good.

He said he got a lot of rain that day, but it was 90F degree weather, so I'm really curious what you guys think.

Did you start it and let it run any?
was it on the oil cap?

It was after I test drove it around the block, and it did idle for maybe a minute or two while I looked at it. I didn't check the coolant reservoir or oil cap, unfortunately. Oil cap is normal for condensation though.

Yes but not alot especially when its milky type on it, from what ive experienced and heard its the sign of a gone hg. Smoking or anything at all besides that?
Why dont you ask the owners to let it idle till operating temp then check it again and take pics? they should be more than happy to considerin you drove a shit ton of hours to look at it already.
