Sup guys, I just wanted to get some opinions before I rip this motor apart; i'll start with what happened, and my compression figures.
A few weeks ago I went out and raced my buddies WS6 a few times. During the second pass I noticed that I was losing boost a little bit faster at higher revs than normal. When we were finished, I headed back to town and as I was crusing my boost fell off to nothing. I went WOT, and I only made about 8psi with my mbc set to 16. I knew initially that I fried another turbo, so I limped it home and parked it for the night. The next morning I started the car up and all the oil that was being fed to the turbo was being burned off. The turbo was making some horrible sounds, so I pulled the feed and plugged it off at the housing so I could drive to work (1/2 a mile down the road) without losing 2 quarts of oil. The car drove fine for 2 days in this manner, I drove to work, and then home. I decided to park it until I got another turbo, so it sat for a week.
I sold a few things on ebay and raised enough extra cash to buy another turbine, so I decided to drive my car down to my buddy Riddle's shop so I could have a decent place to work on it. I started it up, let it warm up for a couple mins, then started down the road. I wasn't taking the car over 3,000revs, just kinda babying it. After a couple 4way stops, the car started missing out like crazy. You could press the clutch, rev it to about 4000revs and it would come back into it. I didn't really worry about the motor until I let the engine brake itself down a steep hill in 3rd; apon acceleration, the car let out a cloud of smoke almost as intense as my turbine had when I blew it. I thought to myself "what in the ####?" The car had a dead miss for the last 2-3 minutes of the drive to Riddle's shop, all in all the trip was about 10 mins. I thought I might have added to much oil, so I checked it when I got to the shop and it was normal. At this point I was getting pissed because I knew it was guides, seals, or rings. The car smokes SLIGHTLY at idle, but if you rev is to 3000 every 2 seconds it starts smoking like a monster.
I ran a compression check today, and these were the results:
4 3 2 1
180 180 173 169
I added oil
219 210 190 191
Now, the first compression check didn't seem to out of the ordinary...I've seen these motors run at MUCH lower pressures. The wierd thing is, cylinders 4 and 3 have oil around the exhaust ports. Cylinders 2 and 1 are spotless. Now Im not sure if 4 and 3 are leaking or if its just 3 and its just spread over, but I don't really see how. Theres quite a bit of oil.
Im really just trying to get a couple opinions. Do you guys think its rings, or is it in the head? Is there anything I have overlooked?
