Cold Weather Question? Convertible top in Fairbanks

Im moving my car 97 gs-t convertible to fairbanks, alaska and it gets cold. Here is my question will my top tear or deteriorate if I drive it around or leave it stationary?

Mine is fine here in Wisconsin, don't put the top down when it is below about 40 degrees and make sure you never allow any snow load to accumulate. If you need to put the top down then you need to let it warm up in a garage for at least 12 hours before moving it. When you wash the car (do it often to keep salt from destroying your paint) wash the top gently because salt will damage the top too.

Edit: It is worth mentioning that I garage my eclipse in the winter and it would probably be worth it to buy a winter beater (4wd if possible) since my eclipse sucks in the snow and yours will be the same, if you don't get a winter beater at least get some snow tires. I have however dealt with other convertibles in the winter and the eclipse top is similar. You can usually pull the insurance off of your eclipse but keep fire/damage protection for a small fee.

Sam's Club sells a 10'x20' canopy that you can set up for a temporary garage. It is NOT rated for snow load but we used one as a kennel for the summer and left it up year round and it managed to stay up under snow load for three years. All you have to do to make it last longer than that is to push up on the roof from the inside after it snows to let the snow slide off.

A basic one can be bought for about $200, one with sides can be bought for about $300.

The problem with a cover is that if you leave your car warm it can melt snow into water and the wet canvas can then freeze to the cover so that when you take it off you cause damage to the canvas, you are actually better off not using a slip cover unless you plan on storing it for a while.
