Cold Air Intake

Is the Aem V2 cold air intake worth the money or is there a better one for my car

I have one. I would recommend it to anyone. Don't pay the list price though. You can find plenty of good deals on ebay.

hey man...the aem is nice...but pricey... i have an Iceman CAI on mine and it couldnt be better...fits perfect and sounds great.... alot of people say its the best for our cars, but thats what i would get if i were you....

start with intake and exhaust.....let it breathe a little better

If you can manage driving w/o power steering just take the belt off. One of the best mods you can actually do. To me I felt more power doing that than my CAI or cat-back exhaust.

Stock tune that thing new plugs,wires check if you need a new coil,drop some synthetic oil,adjust your throtle plate make sure it opens all the way at WOT, TPS adjustment,fill your mounts with urethane, and make or buy CAI not short ram if you want some down low shove, and get a cat-back of ebay.
I promise your car will come to life
All this can be done for the price of a -AEM V2-

Any CAI that can locate the filter outside of the engine bay is best for the best cold air charge.

So any of the AEM CAI's for sure, (I personally don't see the point in the v2, for the cost but thats me)

Basically you want your filter to be in front of the wheel well, kind of like the side mount intercoolers of our 4g63 buddies

I agree with esi-slowboy to some extent. For the money, there is a lot more you could do to your car than buy a piece of powder coated pipe with a filter on the end of it. When you consider a full HRC stage 2 turbosystem w/ SMIC runs $3000, do you really want to spend $500 on a name brand exhaust, $500 on a name brand header, and $300 on a name brand CAI which might, altogether, net you 15whp on a good day? Me either.

An eBay short ram with a quality filter on it (must be purchased separately) is nearly as good. The largest benefit of these intakes is removing the restrictions that come from the factory air box. Getting them a "cold" air charge is nearly moot in terms of performance. After all, you're sucking slightly cooler air through a hot piece of pipe that goes right next to the head and then into the engine.

And don't even bother with "ram air" effect, because no car without a jet engine will go fast enough to being able to approaching the speeds required for this scientific phenomenon to happen.

Just my two cents from a lot of research.

If you're not going to boost that car, stretch every penny you can. It just gets more and more expensive as you go...

Name brands are useless go ebay exhaust,header,Cai they are just clones same performance gains

There is no "Cold" air charge the from a CAI, temp/ effect between short ram vs. CAI is not as big as people think.
"Longer pipes shift the max. filling efficiency to a lower rpm and shorter pipes or no pipe shifts the maximum filling efficiency to the upper rpm's."

1. Buy a full catback system. I suggest the Tsudo and/or Apex'i system for the catback and Tsudo makes headers too which will make your sound A LOT deeper.
2. Install them. You won't get the "gurrgle" sound if your parts are just sitting in your garage. Make sure you have jack stands so you won't die.
3. Stand back. Start up car. Listen for "gurrgle" noise.

My intake is a cheap custom job that all together ran me 60 bucks....i used the factory elbow bend from the TB up to the "muffler" in the OEM Pipe, then i used a Honda civic short ram kit ( 40 bucks at autozone),and two 90 degree bent exhaust pipes(20).....my friend had some extra couplers laying around ....put that all together and my air filter sits just inside the far air duct on the driver's side...thats my Ram CAI , but i do recommend an intake off ebay , their cheap and basically the same as the higher brands, i spent 65 dollars shipped for a system for my 95 Avenger(420a) that took the filter half way down the radiator....

As for noticable upgrades, i want to get an underdrive pulley , but i also want to get a set of Cam Gears, has anyone got any good gains from them?
