Just put the whole thing on. It is highly unlikely that you will suck up enough water to hydrolock the motor. Just dont drive through puddles that are really deep. :dsm:

well where i live we get alot of big puddles...the streets in nyc r REALLY bad. also what about when it snows?.. i was told the snow can mess it up too.

during the summer I don't think it rains in nyc? Put the whole thing on there is a big difference =) I have my full one on but I might take it off soon due to a forced induction option :shhh:

put on the full intake, i had a full one on my non turbo eclipse and drove through rain quite a bit...its not a big deal...if u ever come up to a HUGE puddle....then just put on ur flashers and get around it somehow...

its really a big difference in HP...that short ram prob wont give u ne thing but sound...the cold air option gives you a nice 5-7 hp....its definately worth it in my opinion

My intake is really low. It sucked up water like crazy. I used to have to stay off the throttle as much as I could to keep water out. If it rains, don't WOT it. That will suck up more water than half throttling it. I don't drive mine in the rain anymore, so I don't have to worry about it. AEM makes a "bypass valve" that is supposed to eliminate the chance of water getting in your engine. Don't know how good it works though.

hmm...but it does rain alot in nyc. and i just spent $7500 on my car. i dont want to lose that much cash.. i dont want to take no chances.

don't worry about rain in nyc. in ny the rain is not really an issue.
1. you won't be on the throttle when you riding over bumps/pot holes/puddles.
2.tires wont splash water on your filter because of the wheel well.

the problem only comes if you are those fools that you always see on the news who try to cross flooded steets. This can happen any where in the world. most stock cars will suck in water in these conditions and cause the car to stall. so you have no luck if it is a cai. this is when the bypass valve helps. the filter can be fully under water and water will not reach more that a few inches up the pipe. once your out the water, the water will fall back out the filter.

since u guys have installed CAI's on your cars what did you do with this?(pic below)

alright, I see that everyone here likes the cold air intakes, I have one on my car, but someone was telling me that keeping the stock air box and throwing a K&N drop in in it, that it would work a lot better than any intake, I thought the dude was a complete idiot, what do you guys think?

Have you actually seen where the air gets sucked thru on a stock box. it is a tiny oval roughly as big around as a 50 cent piece, you tell me, who is going to flow more air?
A k&N drop in or a 2.5/3 inch Cold air intake.More air means better fuel atomization, also if it is cold IE. a Cold Air Intake , the air is denser also, dense air means more air to mix with the fuel. Yes a K&N is a good filter for a stock vehicle, Picks up some milage and it's cool that it is washable, but the point is, the stock box cannot keep up with the needs of the car, that is why they bog down abit :thumb:

ok yesterday i was in my car going to jfk airport. and all 3 lanes of the highway was flooded with about 4 inches of rain and all the cars were going about 5 mph for like 1/2 mile bacause of the flood. i was so happy i didnt put on the whole cold air intake because i knew my car would have got messed up in that drive if i did. maybe its different in brooklyn but here in queens the ####ing van wyck (highway) gets flooded like that every time it rains. and i have to go to the airport everyday so im 100% sure in not going to put the full air intake on.

i had a n/t eclipse for 5 years with a cold air intake. rain wont hurt your motor, even if your WOT. sucking up small amounts of water like that doesnt hurt the motor, it just passes through.. there is moisture in the air all the time. Its when you hydrolock that you have major issues. if you see a big puddle just let of the throttle completely and coast through it. Your car at idle doesnt even have enough power to pull that much water through that long cold air intake piping. dont stress :thumb:

nah man he's an idiot. although i had a friend who removed half the box and left his k&n filter hangin with just a rubber band holdin it in place. it sucked up air, but its crap compared to cai

i had a ram intake with a home made bumper induction stack(so cold air could get inside the engine below the filter), now i upgraded to a CAI and its a lot better than the ram, so i dont think the stock intake with an upgraded filter will do any good except for better gas mileage.
