Hey guys, I'm new to here and I just wanna buy the cold air intake system from E-Bay. I ran a few searches and found out that some are cheap as $25 (Bomz, auto2nri) and some are extremely high as $280(injen, aem, k&n, HKS). So I wonder I might have to buy the one with $30 - $50 (including shipping and handling and insureance fee) What do you guy think? :| I need the rest of money for my tuition fee man...

Do any of you know how to install the cold air intake system? or maybe just have a installation guide with pics. will be very appreciate. ;) :dsm: The point is I really need to know whether or not I could install it myself.... :p

I afraid that if I bought one but donno but can't assemble it completely with a bad installation guide form seller is real bad to me man.

I really really need your help DSMtuners.....

Thank you very much :thumb:

hey buddy

first of all welcome

second of all if you search enough, I am about 100% sure you can find your answers within these forums. your question has been asked a lot of times, people have different opinion.
for example, if you decide to go with ebay ones then I heard the piping was bad, sometimes they wouldnt fit and even they fell of people's cars + the filter is bad, to me a good intake is better, also some people say use the ebay intake pipe and get a k&n filter for it, but I dont think it matters because the piping or material used to construct ebay intake is cheap and the one by the HIGH price companies are good because they have done research + testing and that could be the reason the prices being so high, btw now a days you can get a used intake for under 100 bucks, the ones you mentioned , (injen, iceman, aem etc). infact I saw an iceman intake getting sold for $20 the other day.
so everyone is entitled to their opinion and that was my opinion.
as for you installing it, it is really really easy, took me 15 minutes to install mine with the bypass valve. you should be able to do it in at most 1 hour.

in the mean time check this thread out.

installs a breeze. depending on the intake you get, you may have to take out the battery. i did with my AEM. loosen the screw clamps and take off the intake pipe. then there are like 4 bolts around the air box, and the air box pops off. then just put the new one it, and screw clamp it on.

I got a procarparts CAI off of ebay and it works great. I difenently felt a difference. I think it ended up being $45 shipped. I just poped my hood, took off all of the stock airbox things and bolted the CAI right up. It didnt come with instructions but it is pretty self explanitory. Just make sure it is for the right car. PM me with any questions.

The ebay ones will do you pretty well if they fit, plus, they sound cool for an affordable price. Just make sure it's compatable with your MAF. ;)

Hey guys,

Thank you very much for your help... very appreciate man..
Now i'm getting confused and being afraid of can't install it if I have to sweat a lot... :(

I might have to spend sometime a try to contact my local store like Advance auto, O'rielly, Auto Zone to help me out...

Suppose if I buy only the K&N tray filter which replace the OEM one. Do it will have sound or increase my GS hp..?? So :thumb: or :thumbdown ....
The other way is to spend like $100 to buy a HKS super mega flow not a short ram but shorter than that I guess...

What do you guys think .... ;)

I would go with an ebay CAI. Make sure it is a cold-air, because the short rams doesnt do much. The filter wound give you a better sound but it might give you a few HP.

DOnt forget to warm him about if he lives in an area where it rains alot, the down side of a cold air. dont need to be sucking up water and hydro locking the engine. It is VERY VERY VERY easy to install a short ram air intake, when i got my car, i didnt know jack about anything and i bought one, poped the hood removed bolts and screws popped it off slid on the new one and was done in less then a half hour. GET YOUR F'N HANDS DIRTY AND SWEAT A LITTLE wont kill you LOL and the satisfaction of doin an easy job like that all by ur self is awesome.

Or, if you want to save some money and get nearly as much out of it (since it doesn't sound like you have too much else done to the car at this point), find a friend with a drill or a Dremel tool. Cut a bunch of holes out of the DIRTY side of the factory air box and then go buy a quality K&N drop in direct replacement filter. You will get nearly the same improvements in throttle response, overall power (these things don't do much by themselves), and you will definitely get the cool guy sound.

The way I see it, you can spend $40 on eBay for a cheapy and then risk your engine to the inconsistancies of cheaply made bargain basement filters, or you can open up your factory system to allow greater airflow and use a top qulity K&N which you can clean and reuse for a million miles. I went from this "free" mod above to an eBay short ram with a shitty filter and saw absolutely no difference. If you're on a tight budget and still want a gain, look into this route man. It's gonna cost you maybe $45 and a couple hours. You can buy the filter locally and have it the same day without paying some choad online $25 to ship a 5lb package.

Have fun with your car and stretch that money!

yeah while you have that dremel port the throttle body and intake manifold....hope you have a good bit for the injector humps...you'll get more from this then the intake

Don't get a drop in unless you plan on staying stock. I went to nopi.com and got my hpracing CAI for 79 shipped.(check my gallery) it fits good sounds awesome, I get a little more revs because of less restriction. Go cai and not a short ram.

Dear DSMers...

The first of all I have to say Thank you for all of your comments and suggestions. I am totally appreciate and getting to love this site (even I'm not living in California). Thank you all man... :thumb:

Now I've come to the decision that I should go with a highly recognized brand name like AEM, K&N, Injen. But my town is Des Moines Iowa which have a lot of snow... Do you think the cai gonna suck the melted snow into the motor...!!!! Anybody live in snow area...??? need help

I come to the thought that I might have to buy the short-ram intake... 'cuz I don't have to take in take out the filter and its whole pipe. So sorry man.. I like the cai but I have to go for short ram... but if anybody who live in snow area could give me any suggestion concerning the intake & snow will be great... I still want to buy a whole system man. :p

I really like the sound man... I need the sound when rev up and it like FTTTTTTTSSS... !!! :thumb:

I will wait for your guys reply..... ;)

if he is worried about installing an intake, i dont think taking off his throttle body and intake manifold and porting it is on his to do list.
