i have a code 44(coil pack/power transistor) but there is no CEL. My car runs a little funny, when i down shift it's a little choppy, feels like a vacuum leak or something (it's not though). Could this be the beginning of leaky ECU capacitors? Or is it really the the coil pack?

Just thought I'd post an update on my code 44 situation. It did turn out to be the transistor pack in my case. There was though an interesting quirk I came across in the couple of weeks just before the fix. Somehow, I observed a funny connection between the CEL44 symptom and the blower motor: Whenever I would start the vehicle with the blower motor on it would tend not to do the engine bog/CEL 44 thing, or if it did, and I drove it for maybe 10-15 mins with the blower motor on, the engine bog/CEL 44 behavior went away for the rest of the day or a few days. Checking the circuit diagrams, I found that the blower motor was closely connected to the MFI relay and swapped the MFI relay with one I had sitting around from July. It ran quite smoothly for a while, but alas it the CEL44 thing came back again after a few days. After the transistor pack swap (about a month ago), the CEL44 hasn't come back and it doesn't do the engine bog thing now either. If anyone has any idea why MFI relay (therefore fuelsystem) issues could lead to a CEL 44 I'd like to know.

Now I'm onto other fun things like excessive NOx emissions, high cold start idle, and transmission shift shock. It runs really well when warmed up esp on the freeway. It makes me wonder how a vehicle that runs so smoothly on the freeway could have so many problems.
