clutches keep exploding..literaly

Alright i know their stock clutches but the hub keeps blowing apart from the disk. This is the second time in a month, its a fwd with just the basic mods. I know the stockers suck and dont hold power for crap but i would think that it should slip before the hub rips off the disk. Anyone esle have this happen or an idea why it keeps happening? Oh and just for the record im not dumping the cluth at every stop sign either, i drive the car quite conservative most of the time.

In the one pic it wore on the output shaft sleeve and made an 1/8 in lip..not good.

Maybe every other stop sign then
Could be its not properly aligned when installing or poor clutch adjustment possibly

No i used an alignment tool and have the pedal adjusted according to the haynes manual. Oh i forgot to mention on that sleeve where the TOB rides its got about a 1'' wide groove wore into it probably 1/16'' deep, which makes the TOB kinda sloppy when it rides back and forth. I was kinda thinking maybe when i push in the clutch the TOB might hit at a goofy angle, not sure though.

what clutches have you used?

It looks like a cheap disk because it looks like you tore out the rivets holding it together. So either its your driving, cheap disk or both.

Clutches are stock ones but like i said i would figure it should slip before blowing apart ya know. Either way its time for an act i suppose.

Are you letting the transmission hung from the disc when installing it?

Make sure you have both dowel pins that line up the trans to the block...if you don't then this is why you keep blowing up clutches. Because the trans isn't alined correctly (enough though all the bolts say it is) the engaging and disengaging is also not alined and eventually the clutch just falls into pieces...its always the springs that fall out first. Gotta have those dowels...just like the dowles on the block to aline the head, if they're not there, trouble starts

+1 for the dowels or you have some crazy steps in your flywheel that makes that stock clutch grab like crazy and rip apart which i dought so im gonna go with improper tranny alignment.

no problem...I had a customer with a prelude that had the same problem...he was doing the clutch himself everytime until I had a look at it and boom...no dowel pins

+10 on the dowel pins. I was missing one once on a tranny swap and destroyed a clutch in less than 5000 miles. This is the fun of doing stuff yourself. Theres always the little tricks you need to know when working on your car. I always thought it was just an alignment dowel.
