Hey guys i'm still working on getting my repo car running. Today we finally got the engine pulled and to my surprise i found an ACT clutch in it (anyone tell which one?). Problem is it looks pretty worn out to me, but i've really only changed one clutch on my probe and i knew it was slipping so i didn't look at it to much. In the pictures you can seethe clutch face is worn down in a couple spots. So i'm assuming this needs to be replaced. I'm not sure how worn down the disc is but i've heard of people saying to use an upgraded disc with a stock pressure plate. Would this disc work for that? Or is it too worn out? Now I searched around a little bit and i found this at NAPA which is definitely not my expert DSM Source. But they say its a kevlar clutch... Is this considered a significant upgrade?

Here is my theoretical question. So I know nothing about my car other than whats on the cover. Its a 96 tsi awd. The license plate says 2eatv8s and as near as i can tell there is nothing on this thing that would warrant that. It looks like a stock turbo. There is no boost controller. He has a homemade upper IC and that is it. Now how do you tell the difference between a t28 and a t25? Because to me there is no reason for this guy to have an upgraded cluthc on the tiny t25, right? THanks for the help! Please let me know what you think of the napa clutch!

that pressure plate is toast. while you have it all out, i would suggest just replacing everything, so you don't have to worry about it later when you start modding it. you don't have to have an upgraded turbo to have a good clutch....a good buddy of mine is still on a t25 and he just installed a act 2100.

i guess i'm not really understanding your question?

oh and i would stay away from the napa clutch..i don't have experience with it, but for that price you can go with a trusted clutch like ACT....

which question? I had a few...

Is the organic disc still usable with a stock pressure plate? Does it make sense to do that?
Which ACT was this?
Would the Napa kevlar clutch be a good deal and significant improvement?... it does include a flywheel and mine looks a lot like the pressure plate.
I guess you can put whatever clutch you want in thats true.

Thanks a lot for the response!

ah ok sorry...

yea i don't see a problem using the stock pressure plate with that disc. i can't really tell by the pics if its still usable. if the disc is worn enough to where you can feel the metal dimple thingys (the things in in the disc around the entire thing) while running your hand across the flat of the dics then its not worth putting back in.

i'm not sure if there is a way to tell which act clutch it was by pics, if there is, i have no idea on that one....i'm guessing that its a 2100, i think the 2600 has a little beefier pressure plate....

yea the napa clutch is really your decision, but for a little bit more you can go with a tried and true name brand clutch (which would be my suggestion....) but you probably won't have a problem using it....

hope that helped! :talon: :dsm:
