I am in the market for a new clutch. I am either going with a SPEC 3 or ACT2600 I think. My question is what clutch do you guys/gals prefer and why??

Any input is appreciated.

I have read that many people on here get the ACT but what is the reason for it?? I always thought SPEC was the top of the line company for clutches. At least back in my mustang days a few years ago they were...

thanks for the reply though DTH.

The act is proven. However i have heard from many sources that act may have changed the material that the plate is made out fo so they break easier now. But that only happens on a few. Also the act 2600 is hell on the clutch pedal assembly. Especially if you have an already weak one. You have to get into the assembly and take it out and weld it. One guy said he would rather do a tranny job than the pedal assembly. I have not heard much about the spec clutch. I am runnning a feramic clutch and i love it.

third down. Its all true except i dont think there backordered any more.

I tried the feramic disc and it went out in 800 miles after proper break in and only 3 runs at the track. My best time is 12.2 @ 116mph so I definately did not exceed its specs. I now have the 2600 with 4 runs on it and no signs of any problems.

Ok sorry for putting it in the wrong forum.

But back to my question. Has anyone tried a Spec III clutch on their 2g?? What did you think of it?

Thanks for the responses guys/gals.

I have heard around that the ACT 2600 is really tough on the Tranny and is harsh for day to day drivablility. For a car that is going to be tuned but mostly going to be street driven and only occastionally at the track (2-3 times a year) I have heard good things about the centerforce clutch. What do people think of that setup?

Yeah one of my buddies has the centerforce clutch, he likes it. I totally forgot about that one. I am just suprised more people arent using a Spec clutch...

I have never seen Spec brand clutches on an Eclipse/Talon/Laser aftermarket vendor website. On the other hand, they all seem to carry the ACT's. It could be that ACT was first and developed a following. I have an ACT because they're widely used (tested/proven to work) and widely offered.

I ran a Spec 3 with a spec disc, not the puc disc. It held pretty good. I could do 6 runs in a row with about 10 minute wait in between. Got 1.7xx sixty foots with it. Put like 12,000 miles on it, then my tranny decides to piss all over it. Disc got soaked in Penzoil syncromesh. I pulled it out and went to a ACT 2600. The ACT yeilded 1.6xx 60 ft for me, so I would say the ACT was better. It does have a stiffer pedal. I think the Spec was a 2450 lb PP.

Was the Spec hard for everyday driving? I commute to school and its about a 30 minute drive mostly highway unless there is traffic which there usually is in the afternoon. I dont want to be hassled while driving ya know. But I also want the performance out of my clutch. I guess I want the best of both worlds if possible.

I think I will try the ACT2600 since more people use it and its proven. But why are all of these newer once breaking down?? Should I wait before I buy one?

Thanks alot everyone.
