Before people start saying crankwalk, let me just ask a few other things. What would be the symptoms of an engine oil overfill? I am just trying to get all the possibilities cause i am having a pretty loud ticking coming from somewhere around valve cover area.Pretty sure its not lifter tick.It gets louder when accelerating softly"like a sewing machine sound" I have a pretty noticeable loss of power but no real boost guage to see if im losing boost.I am trying to keep rpms under 4k until i figure this out.For a few weeks now the clutch has been acting messed up when its cold or every once in a while it will get very mushy.I am checking the slave cylinder first but where do i go from there? I have already been reading all about it.Im just hoping for the best and asking where do i start with diagnosing. How do i find out about the ticking.I dont think i would see anything just from pulling the valve cover off.Just before i tear into this someone help as far as to where to start and what order to check things.I am checking slave cylinder first.I just replaced Master cylinder a few weeks ago.The car has loss of power at WOTand progressive ticking at the beginning of acceleration then goes away. The car doesnt die on left hand turns and the rpms dont go down when i put in the clutch. So im hoping that this is not Crankwalk. The engine has 158,000 miles on it never rebuilt.I am just looking for what to check next if the slave cylinder proves to be good and all.The clutch was acting funny for a few weeks before ticking ever happened. Is it possible that i have a bad slave cylinder and maybe lifters or valves messing up "two separate things?" Would a compression test prove anything? Thanks for any help.I guess i will check a few things out tonight and maybe bleed my clutch/check slave. Would engine oil overfill cause this? I noticed it was past the full level but not by much.Help Thanks, Travis

r u sure the ticking noise u are hearing is not from the egr solenoid on the firewall, they always make a ticking sound, very annoying.

Still sounds a little like crankwalk's symptoms to me. However you can try those other things you mentioned to help you out. Maybe change your lifters it you think it is that.

My 95 gst does the ticking thing, but only when its cold weather. I have 140k miles and no crankwalk either. Had a crank position sensor put on last year and had the crank checked then and it was ok. My clutch was messing up just like your saying. Except I was getting fluid leaking down on my pedal and the master cylinder was leaking. I replaced the master cylinder and it solved the problem. Did you make sure you bled the clutch good when you put the master cylinder in. That may be part of the problem. But I had a guy tell me if you're gonna replace the master go ahead and replace the slave. Of course I didn't have much option but to do the master at the time. As for the ticking I never suspected the egr solenoid. Do you think that really what it may be?! Mine kind of sounds like an ignition thing. Maybe I'm not listening good. And it only does it when its cold! I wonder if I replaced the solenoid it would solve that issue!

pop the hood and when it starts to tick, start to touch the solenoids and see if they are in vibrating in rythm with the ticking.

I have the same ticking coming for the egr solenoid. I had that ever since I had my car. The thing that I did to get rid of it (or to drown out the sound) was I got some rubber spacers and placed it behind the mounting brackets where the egr solenoid plate mounts to the firewall. Now, all of the vibrations are absorbed through the rubber spacers, instead of getting metal to metal vibrations without the rubber spacers. Try it out, and let us know if this drowns out the sound!

Mine's been doing it since day one too and I have never heard of this. I will definitley try it and let you know what happens!

Thanks again!
