Ok guys, help me out here. It's a '91 Eagle Talon non-turbo, 2WD. The clutch was slipping, so I installed new clutch kit/flywheel. After putting it back together, I'm having clutch hydraulic problems, it seems. I did push the clutch pedal with the tranny out (learning experience). I already replaced the slave cylinder and bled it about 20 times, but loose pedal pressure shortly after every time. (really tough to get into gear).

... and the real prob., my reverse is a forward gear now. WTF did I do?? I've tried adjusting the cables as instructed by Haynes, but no change.

So--new clutch (which grabs/drives well if you can get it in/thru the gears), but hydraulic and linkage problems now??

PLEASE HELP!

Greg, St. Louis

lift up your shifter boot and check that linkage too. and have a friend or someone shift gears while you look at the linkage under the hood. you could have overlooked something. it happened to me before. my reverse was 4th. and 1st was 3rd. as for the slave. you could have a leak somewhere. did you replace the clutch master cylinder also?

Sounds like you hooked the wrong cable to the wrong end.

I also read a thread once where someone put the bracket in backwards and had the same result. I'm not sure exactly what bracket as I have a turbo. But I'm pretty sure they described the same problem.

Hope that helps...

No, I haven't replaced the MC yet. Both worked well before the clutch job. Doesn't seem to leak anywhere in the system. I'll take another look at her.

New clutches find weak points and make leaks. You might have the cables backwards on the tranny. You had to unhook those so maybe they got swaped. Also there is an ajustment above the gas pedal at least on my awd. That might give you the extra push on the pressure plate so you can select gears.

This has nothing to do with the clutch, I would re-read the post by 95talon_in_ma. It seems that is the most logical place to start.

When I removed the tranny for the clutch job, I removed the entire shift/select cable bracket from the tranny (so that I wouldn't have to mess with the cables). I didn't disconnect them from inside either. I compared mine to photos in the Hayne's manual, and I just don't see how I can be wrong there.

Unfortunately, I've never adjusted clutch cables before and don't know what I did wrong here.

Is it possible that the shifter is actually putting it in 4th when I'm trying to get in R? This has to be in cable adjustment somehow, right??...
