Ok so heres the issue I'm having. Car starts and runs when cluch pedel is engaged but when left in neutral there's a god awful racket coming from the trans.. when put in any gear u release the clutch and car stays at idle no stall, give it throttle it wont move.. when I got the car I was told the clutch was gone(burned up). And when you pull the boot back u can definitely smell clutch.. my question is could it just be a bad clutch or could it be my trans aswell?

Sounds like clutch but it could be a combo of things. If your inpout shaft broke then you would get no movement of wheels while in gear, but it doesn't usually make a lot of noise. BUT your you may also have something else in the tranny making noise (lots of choices).

Though chances are pretty good its your clutch, you need to pop out the tranny to see for sure.

I agree with Mark, trans needs to come off. It could be a destroyed clutch or a trashed input shaft in conjunction with a damaged/destroyed clutch.
