clutch fried when i got the car and here is what happend

i just got this car a couple days ago and when we looked at it it was making a squealing sound when it started up.well i bought a 95 tsi AWD and then yesterday while i was driving i pushed in the clutch so i can downshift at this sharp turn and it wouldn't shift into first so then i just stopped and turned it off and the clutch pedal wouldn't come back up. I saw some smoke coming from my right tire area so i popped the hood and it was coming from around the transmission. I started the car again 30 sec later and i pushed in the clutch and it started making that horrible squealing noise again and this time it wouldn't stop. I already know the clutch is gone b/c i put it into 1st while the car was off and started it again to take it off the road and as soon as it started moving and let go of the clutch pedal it was fine so the tranny isn't bad. Is it indeed a clutch b/c of the smoke i saw and could it be a master or slave cylinder as well for the pedal staying down.. Thanks

I hope you got some kind of warranty with the car as if it is indeed CW, you're in for costly repairs

its got a 6 bolt and has been in there for a while but he gave me another 6 bolt with the car that has 20K original miles on it so i'm gonna drop that in soon.

Check the harmonic balancer, in case it was your right and not the car's.

why check the harmonic balancer when it was just the clutch? could this 6 bolt have crankwalk? and since i'm new to DSM... is there supposed to be a check engine light on with this swap in my 95? i think its b/c there were more sensors but not too sure
