I have a 99 Mitsubishi Eclipse with engine main bearing 180°.
Due to clutch slipping I would like to install a better clutch. Does anyone have experience with this engine type (98/99)? I looked up several threads about different types of clutches - but did not find anything to this model (as we do not have the main bearing with 360°)

I dont understand what you want to know!!! A clutch is a clutch, it dont matter what your bearings are!! A ACT clutch will bolt on 90-99 turbo dsm's..

I'm not sure he knows what he's talking about LOL

Any clutch will work for a 90-99, except for a twin disk.
 
Yeah man, if you want a clutch you could go to a shop and say you need one for a 92 awd, it dont matter!!
 
Sorry about confusing - I just wrote what my boyfriend told me...

It's not about fitting, I know that everything fits. But the problem is that there are two different kind of engine bearings.
One is this:

98-99 MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE ACL RACE MAIN ROD BEARING 4G63:eBay Motors (item 150391530322 end time Dec-03-09 09:21:44 PST)

and the other one is this:

93-94 2.0L Mitsubishi Eclipse Turbo ACL Race Bearings:eBay Motors (item 370181308466 end time Dec-25-09 09:46:01 PST)

The first one is the thrust washer set we have in our engine. And my boyfriend told me it does not hold that much pressure while pressing the clutch. As the crankshaft only has 180° thrust washers.

Therefore he would like to know what clutch you would recommend (as it is a turbo modified engine).

All other engines does have thrust washers with 360° (and can hold more pressure).
 
The 98-99 have a split thrust and is pretty much the best of the 4g63 motors, it has the same set up as a evo8-9 motor, so i would say you can put any clutch you want in it!! I would go with an ACT 2600 with a 6puck sprung disc..
 
I was told that the 360° thrust would be better than the split one - as force during pressing the clutch is evenly distributed. I have heard about "crankwalk" often that was caused by a stronger pressure plate.
Therefore the question what experience you have made with this engine together with a stronger clutch?

If that was the case then no one would build a evo8-9 motor!!!
All i know is that the split thrust is just as good, if not better then the 6bolt.. I have never experienced a 6bolt or a 7bolt split thrust ever getting crank walk!!
 
Crankwalk is so overrated. Don't worry about it, just get whatever clutch will be good for your goals.
