Clunking when I let off the gas??

so since i've had my car whenever i'm in gear and I let off the gas without feathering off of the pedal a get a clunk from my engine area, so i'm thinkin new mounts.. well i've replaced the mounts that were ripped, and it still does it, so now i'm thinkin to get mount inserts.. I was reading in my trusty ol' Haynes manual and it was saying something about a Worn pinion in my tranny and i'm just wondering if thats what it could be or wha??

Worn transmission internals can cause this, kinda hard to diagnose without seeing the car though.. most of the time when I see a car that does this, it ends up being worn trans internals..

Check to see if theres metal in your trans fluid, that would be a good start at finding the problem

im having the same kinda of problem and my friend said it was tranny noise, but its wierd.. becuase when i took the rims/tires that i have on the front and changed them with my friends so that i could have alittle more tread in the snow, the noise went away. so im kinda lost as to what it is.. i know my tranny grinds 2nd (only when it gets hot), so id like to see whats causeing urs so i know where to start from.

I had that problem too. One day I noticed the same sound when I was backing up with the wheels turned all the way to the left. I replaced the left driveshaft and the problem went away. Bad CV joint
