The first time i started to hear this was a while ago when I first got it, so maybe a year. Well when I shut my car off I hear a deep clunking noise. That's the only time I use to hear it.

Now today I figured I do a 2nd gear pull on the way home, around 5k rpms I heard that same deep clunking sound. I put it in neutral and it was instantly gone. I also hear it in 4th gear, it's not very fast or loud but I can hear it.

I don't believe my balance shaft is removed, should I think about doing that, and would a compression test help me find the problem if it's something with the motor.

Thanks

Motor mounts can make noises like that.Check those first really if your balance shaft was not in sync it would vibrate alot i mean very noticeable.

Ok I'll look at those. The previous owner put prothane mounts in front and back. So what's left is the sides. I'm thinking about doing a compression test this week. Would that unveil something that could be wrong?

if your valves are hitting, a compression test could tell you.

Is the clunking effected by the rpm level (faster at higher RPMs and slower at lower RPMs)? Or is it sounding just like that when you're on it and when you shut it off.

I've heard it while driving but it isn't all the time and it doesn't seem to get faster or slower. Whenever I hear it i back off immediately so not really sure. And I plan on doing a compression test today, so I'll see what that shows.
