clicking/popping noise under acceleration

hi, I need some advice here for my 1995 eagle talon tsi awd.
So as stated in the title I've got a clicking/popping noise under acceleration in 1st gear mainly and sometimes and I roll on the power in 2nd. manual trans in this car. The noise is coming from the engine bay directly forward from my feet. so I guess directly under the 'hump' of the hood below the engine. the clicking sounds like a cv joint to me but I can't hear it while turning...that's the strange part. has anyone else encountered this? I really don't like changing parts for the sake of changing them! bit of a job too!

C.V. joints click and pop under acceleration. It usually means the inner c.v. joint is going bad. When you hear a c.v. joint pop and click when turning, its typically the outter c.v. joint. Crawl under and inspect everything...

well, I did some more testing and went it circles in a parking lot trying stuff. no clicking when turning. I noticed it was only I was coming off the clutch in 1st and second. It just doesn't sound like a clutch issue.
A few days ago I also got under there and shook every component under there...mabey i'll get under there again and focus on the inner joints. I think u will probably be right.

Just lift the car and wiggle your tire in all directions. This will show you if you have any play in those components.
