I'm trying to wire something to my cigarette lighter and i belive there's like 4 wires comming off the back of it. Does anyone know which one is the power for the lighter?

Theres only two wires that connect to the cigarette lighter it self the other two are for the illumination light around it. The wires that you wanna use are the one's with the plastic clamp connectors. I believe the center connector is the pos and, the outer connector is the negative.

Use a test light. If you don't have one, get one. It makes wondering if you are going to electrocute yourself, blow a fuse, or get no power at all a worry of the past.

Every tool box should have one :thumb:

a test light would be irrelevant in this situation because it would go on touching any power and ground wire combination.

as for the lighter connections, the white is +12v the black is ground.

What I did for my radio was bought some 2g (i know its overkill) wire and routed to the center console from the battery when I put my system in. I made a distribution block out of a piece of thick metal and a block of wood. I connected the 2g wire to it, then ran 12g wires out of it to my radio, and power door locks. Now everytime I need a power line inside the cabin, I just tap into that. That way you can keep your lighter and still have anything else you need powered inside.

Confused, touch white wire, ground it, light goes on. Touch black wire, ground it, light doesn't go on. White wire=hot. What doesn't work about this?

You don't touch both of the wires to the lighter at the same time!
