Chirping noise

Sounds like a pulley to me. did you just recently just change out the alternator or power steering? could be a bad pulley or simply just misalligned slightly. I also see you have an aftermarket belt, did you tension it properly? To tight may cause one of the pulleys to chirp like that by pulling it's alignment off slightly.

I did a full timing job, all belts and tensioners. But did not replace pulleys, same ps pump, alternator and ac pulleys. Just new belts for all.

I suspect a bad pulley also. My crank pulley chirped when it was on its way out. Did you replace the water pump while you were in there? If you want to narrow it down, take one belt off at a time to rule out certain pulleys. DO NOT RUN IT FOR LONG IF YOU DO THIS!!

I dont think its the harmonic balancer, I have a Fluidampr, it is brand new less than 500miles on it

also yes I did replace water pump.

Well I will be doing a headgasket here pretty soon so when i have it apart, I should inspect these pulleys. Anything inparticular to look for to see if its bad?

Did you end up resolving your issue?

I have been having the same issue with my 90 gsx after doing a complete timing belt job.

I replaced timing belt, balancer belt, balancer tensioner pulley, timing belt tensioner pulley, idler pulley. (ALL MITSUBISHI OEM)

I already tried removing accessory belts to make sure it was the timing components and it still persists with them disconnected (short engine run time... i know ;) )

Did some more digging and thought it could be the harmonic balancer so I replaced that with a new one and yet it still is chirping exactly the same way as in your video. Its not exceptionally loud but does chirp.

I even removed timing belt cover and bolted everything back on to see if maybe there was something rubbing against the cover... no luck :(

I am nearly positive I did my tension on my t-belt correctly as I have all the special tools and followed factory manual.

It is either timing belt tension or a bad pulley (even tho they are new).

The only thing I could say off the top of my head was that I used a 92+ idler pulley, with the correct shortened bolt and it seems to be on right (92+ different idler pulley then 90, 91)

Anyone have any ideas? I would hate to have to rip off the timing belt again :ohdamn:

No I did not end up fixing the issue. However I just had my alternator replaced and I did an A/C delete while doing my head gasket and clutch/flywheel install. Napa guys told me a bearing was going out in my old alternator so hopefully there will be no more squeak.

I had a similar squealing chirp when the engine was cool which was also added by a loud singular chirp intermittently at highway speeds. I replaced my AC and PS belt and noticed the AC had road debris (looked like tar chips embedded in it) all over the place and the noise went away after. Probably not your cause, except maybe the tension is too much/too little. Also, the AC pulley tends to cause squealing as well. My girl had a GST that threw an AC belt (and took out the others) due to the pulley seizing. It had been making the squealing/chirping noise for months prior.
