I noticed a weird sound coming from 91 gst while going for a cruise today it sounds consistent as i boost in every gear but first and while in neutral i can rev her up and she sounds beautiful. If it was a belt or pulley it would make the noise in neutral too right? My recent modification is a full vrs 2.5 inch exhaust with no cat. I think it might be time to install new turbo. What do you think?

If it sounds a bit like a chirping sound it might be you exhaust mani. Mine recently got a small crack and made a weird sound. Just a thought.

The noise i experience is noticeable under small amounts of boost up to peak (anything over 0) and if i rev the engine in neutral it sounds normal but the turbo doesn't spool in neutral does it? If i had a cracked manifold would it be more apparent under boost since the exhaust flows more?

Mine was quite subtle. The way you describe it, it reminded me of this. It may be it or not, but just an idea. I never would have thought it was that, but the second I took my buddy for a ride he new what it was instantly. Check it out.

Could be the bov has a small leak. Never had it happen, but have heard stories about them leaking and that might cause that sound.

If you are hearing a chirp under boost only, Exhaust leak?? Boost Leak??

Do a boost leak test and see if your J pipe is leaking. They sound unique when they are leaking right where it bolts on to the turbo. My advice! But a Boost leak test is always good to do when you are bored and the car is clean. Also an exhaust leak can make that noise. So check them both

The noise is not there this morning! I drove around and it made no weird noises at any boost level. Now i know things don't fix themselves so im gonna figure its time for my chinabay turbo install!! My turbo is stock and has 175,000 miles on it but boost great. How long do stock turbos last?

i would do a boost/exhaust leak check like these guys said, before you go swapping out parts hoping for a fix. i also would not recommend that cheap knock-off turbo.
