Okay I'm going to be test driving a 1998 Eclipse all weekend, what problem areas should I look for, My wife went and picked it up today I haven't had a chance to look at it yet but it's either a GS or RS, from the discription she was giving me. I'll start driving it when I get off work so let me know what to watch out for.

Thanks,
Aaron

Check out underneath the car, see if the unibody is bent at all, make sure all the doors open/close fine. Same with hood and trunk.

See if there's any oil, or other fluids in the engine bay in spots they shouldn't be at.

Check all the fluid levels, belts, hoses for wear and tear.

There's more, but I have to run to pick someone up. Good luck, keep us posted.

Alright I'm back with more info,

The car: it's actualy a '95 GS Eclipse. White in color. Grey cloth interior

It needs a new starter for sure.

A new windshield, (big crack in this one)

Speedometer not working, also the odo is stuck at 112,000 miles, (true mileage unknown)

Paper work in glove box showing engine/trans were replaced.

Front bumper is fubar, and it needs the factory driver side corner skirt. (the one that attaches to the front fender at the door line)

It's got all the usual rice mods to it, Altezza Tailights, Projector Headlights, some brand X coilovers, 17" white 7 spoke wheels. (all things I want to change back to factory units)

There asking $1,500,

Whats your guys and gals opinions.

P.S. I'll get some pics on tommorow

Speedo not working, and odometer stuck... yikes.

Wonder how they managed to screw it up in the first place, and why they would want to tamper with anything in that area.

Do they have the stock parts to go along with it to make converting it back to stock easier?

I wish! The car is a repo from my mother in-laws credit union. As for the speedo thing, I haven't had a chance to check the speedo plug on the trans yet, if anyone has a pic of where this plug is let me know.

Yeah I checked the NADA value on this car and it's about 3900 with the miles showing on the odo. Only thing I'm really worried about is why the engine had to be replaced. It's a 5 speed and the trans shifts good, all gears work.

Did you say the engine had to be replaced? If it did and wa buy it. You have many upgrades even if the engine needs to be replaced and u got some money. Buy the cheap 2g put a 6bolt in and do all the other small mods u wil be running low 13's in no time with a 1,500 dollar car.

Nah, I said the engine WAS ALREADY replaced, at what mileage I don't know.

Any ways here is a pic, I'll get some more pics tommorow when it's sunny.

Oh I forgot to tell y'all it has an unknown brand muffler (3 inch sewer pipe syle :barf: ) and an unknown cold air intake (very nasty looking). If anyone has a stock GS-T exhuast system they would like to donate :D ..

Plug the speed sensor back in, top of the transmission.

Did some searching on this could not really find any good info on the location of this plug on a non-turbo. If anyone has a Haynes Manual that they could scan this info out of that would be great.

Thanks, Aaron

No one has a Haynes Manual and a scanner?

Did anybody read his post at all? 6 bolt swap? running 13's? :toobad: its a GS. For what it is/has, I'd pay $8-900. I bought my Great condition 95 n/a for about $3k 3 years ago with 102k miles. Please don't buy that pos.

doooouuuu!!I would buy it for a sexy looking daily driver.thats it,if you want performance, save yourself some money, trouble and time and buy a turbo version, other than that i think it's a good deal if all the other stuff works on the car.
