Edmontn,
Ok I think I narrowed it down to a finding a 2G 97-99 AWD DSM. In may area they go from $8,000-15,000. What should I be looking at? What usually goes wrong? Stage 1 upgrades, with a Evo III 16G, the ones listed on the site. Does anyone think that any other mods are needed to get to the 300hp mark?

Check the timing belt for wear, I would ask the owner if/when it was last replaced (its due every 60k miles). Do the crankwalk test (search for it). As for AWD, I would make sure the tires have even wear on them, because if they're unevenly worn it will mess with your rear diff, t case, etc.. Honestly I would change out all the fluids (oil, tranny, tcase, rear diff, check coolant) as well as spark plugs and check your accessory belts.

What usually goes wrong: If a neglected timing belt decides to go, you're wallet is going to be empty for a while.
Crankwalk CAN happen, but its never a certain thing. My car had 103K on it before i rebuilt the motor, no signs of crankwalk. Even if you crankwalk, you can always put a 6 bolt in.
Motor mounts usually suck after 10+ years, polyurethane mounts are a good, relatively cheap fix.

Also, it may be a little harder & more expensive to find a 99, but the rear LSD is really nice to have. 98 & 99's also have a better thrust bearing (2 piece).

I'm not too familiar with the stage 1 upgrade path on this site, but an evo 16g with adequate fuel supply and tuning should give you enough power to work with. :thumb: You're probably going to want an intercooler upgrade at this point.

I would love to but since I am in Canada I would have to convert that to CDN$ and also pay several fees on top of that.

I thought only the early 95's have the rear lsd? At least mine does? It says it right on the door panel.OMG

7-15k huh? You should EASILY be able to get a good, clean GSX for NO MORE thank 8 or 9k. If you want one that already modified heavily, than 15k can still probably get you that.

Well where I live Eclipses were not sold because there was not a dealer. But Eagle's are more common. A stock 97 Talon is $8,000-$10,000 on Kijiji. There is a modified 99 GSX for $15,000 but most of the stuff is expensive. But I was talking to a Guy who has 3 DSM's and he might sell a 97 Talon with conversion and 16G etc. and a new paint job for $7,000. I just have to wait for the good deals :D

If I buy one from the states I would have to add tax when I cross the boarder, convert it to CDN and also change a few things (lights, french labels, I have no idea why, and a few other modifications and a inspection = +$1000 or more)
