Hey there, I'm picking up a 2G chassis with a JDM 6-bolt swap (seized piston, oil return line had a hole) with the B/S eliminated. I was wondering if there is anyway to check an oil pump/front case to see if it's reusable or not. I'm building a 2.4L and didn't want to throw on junk, but since I'm getting the 6-bolt motor I was just wondering. Also is there anyway to check the tensioner, pulleys, etc. I'm sure there is a link somewhere, I just can't find it. Thanks~Brandon.

Your gonna get alot of "don't reuse it comments", but I have reused a few oil pumps with no problems.

When you have the case removed from the block, you can take the Rear BS and oil pump cover off and inspect the gears for excessive wear, and play in the case. If there isn't much of a wear pattern on the gears after I clean them and dry them, I slap some assembly lube in there and put it back together with a stub shaft or the BS whacked off and welded shut.

You get seals for the oil pump case in a full engine rebuild kit too, so you think you'd just "reseal" the case and your good to go.

Best of luck to you.

I plan on reusing my front case also and have a stub shaft to reinstall. However, do you think welding the hole shut is not going to throw the balance off, or do you have the thing balanced or something?
