Just did a clutch swap on my 99GSX decided to do some general maitenence on it while the transmission was out. First thing i did was clean the intercooler and hard pipes, next changed the fuel filter.....lastly decided to clean everything and re-paint my heat shields...took the top one off and discovered this crack.......

i was just curious what might cause it.....i plan on getting a E316G with a new manifold shortly so it won't be on there much longer

hey hey.....don't go getting rid of it just yet. Take it to a "welding" shop. Or let me be clearer. Take it to a local shop that specializes in WELDING. Its a pretty simple fix. They have to heat the manifold up to 600*+, use HI-Nickel rod and let it cool slowly. Might cost you $45.00

While its off you can port the flange. Good to go.

Be careful not to break off any of those $8.50 each bolts that hold the turbo on, and use Anti-Seize when going back together.

Order a new Turbo to manifold gasket and your set.

Best of luck.

*oh and the cause is normal daily driving, cheap 86 octane, and 135 mph + 5th gear pulls.

As long as it's not all the way through it won't be a problem. Check the under side of the heat shield, if it is black above the crack then you know it's leaking.

I have checked the heat shield and it is black :sosad: i was curious if anyone has or heard about Slowboy Racing's Exhaust Manifold??? That is the one i was looking at to replace....let me know what ya all have heard thanx for the advice and keep it coming :thumb:

I just put my slowboy manifold on the other day, i had to do a bit of dremeling to accually get it on. My car didnt seem a whole lot different from that along but i did show a Honda buddy of mine a little different race than before the manifold. If you plan to do more exhaust work than the manifold then it will help out big in the end. o and my old 1g mani had a crack similar to yours that i was aware of yet never really cared to much about. Goodluck

ah! your manifold has a boo boo! put a bandaid on it!

might be worth it to just get the SBR manifold and then set up an external wastegate and be all setup.
