I searched the forums and didn't really find an answer to this. I removed my cat when I did my exhaust, there is just straight pipe there now. But now my check engine light is on and wont go off, cause of the cat, I think. Is there any way to fix this, inexpensivly? I tried disconnecting the battery for a little while, when I did that the light went off for the rest of that day, then was on again the next day.

I dont have a cat and no one I know has a cat and I've never heard of the CEL coming on because of this.

What codes it throwing?

Oops! You have a 1G. Desregard the link as it only applies to 2G cars. I have no Idea why you are getting a CEL on a 1G seeing as your car isn't OBDII.

i took it to autozone to do a diagnostic test, but the guy said his tester wouldn't work on my car...the plug in thing was the wrong size.
By the way, this is on a 94 eclipse n/t, if that makes a difference

ok, so if you guys don't think it has anything to do with the cat, then what would have caused it? Cause it happened just a couple of days after we put my exhaust and headers on. The car runs fine, never overheats...doesn't make funky noises - aside from lifter tick.

I tend to agree it might be the O2 sensor. Makes sense, since you did install the header, and I would assume, you had to reinstall the O2 sensor in the header?

Only way to tell for sure is ck the codes, or replace the O2 sensor and see if the light goes out!

I know my car is 2G, but I had the same problem when I replaced my cat with a high flow cat. I took it to the dealer, and they explained it as there are two O2 sensors, one on each side of the cat. When exhaust goes through the first sensor, it reads it, then when the second O2 sensor reads the same exhaust, if the calculations are not in stock perameters, the Check Engine Light goes on. It cost me around $60 to find out, and they cleared the code, and that was that. I hope this helps. :)

ouch!

to clear a code... disconnect the battery for about 30 seconds to a minute.

autozone can read the CELs for free.

I already disconnected the battery - the check engine light went off for the rest of the day, and was back on when I started it up the next day.

I already took it to Autozone too, they said the plug in was different so they couldn't check it out for me. But I could take it to the Mitsu dealership and have them check it for about $100. Yeah right! You guys know more than they do at the damn dealerships anyways.

Yeah i was pretty upset to learn that after worrying about if my engine was f*@ked up. Now I really do not worry about that light (even though it has not come up since) because I take way too good of car of my baby :shhh: (at least that is what everyone else says :thumb: ) to know that if that light comes on again, that she is just being her temermental self again. I say as long as your car is running like a kitten don't woory about it. Most of the time it is just a sensor, espeically if it happened after you put in the high flow pipe and all. Good luck with whatever you decide to do though bro :thumb:
