Ok so I've had idle surge from day 1 with this car, I recently learned the last mechanic to look at the car said something about the intercooler being bad. I think this is the reason why I'm getting the surge but I'm not sure. I went through this idle surge FAQ and haven't found anything yet. I quoted the last post I made on my idle thread so you guys can see.

Ok so now on to the front mount, my birthday is next month so I'm thinking I will buy a front mount, but I'm looking for something at least under 300. What kit would you guys recommend? Also how much fab work will I need to do to install it? Thanks for your help.

Ok so today I started going through the list, and I've still gotten no where. I couldn't get the biss screw out completely, but I doubt thats my problem. The ISC's resistance levels checked out fine, and I didn't bother with cleaning the throddle body or the EGR because of lack of time.

I also learned that the last mechanic that looked at it said something about the intercooler being bad(stock sidemount) which I think would definitely make my idle fubar like it is. How would I go about checking if it's my intercooler?

anyways here are some pics of the engine bay so you guys could spot some obvious problem that I'm not seeing.( sorry about the camera phone pics.)

Also I noticed some oil in my tb, what does that mean? I'm guessing intercooler related?

The rest of it looks clean to me so I don't think cleaning it is the issue, but you tell me

Would I have to bend pipes or just cut them? What do you guys think about the ssautochrome 2g kit?

i have the 2g SSAC FMIC, i like it works good. cheap. it was like 285 shipped.

WTFWTF Just make sure your PCV is working. No you do not need one.
How do you check if it's working? Do most people run catch cans?

ummm your missing your upper intercooler pipe.......unless you took it off

That would be the problem.
Yeah I think I would have a few more problems then idle surge if I was driving it around like that:p

Thanks, Their site says their out of stock but hopefully they'll get some more soon.

get a new pcv valve. they are lke 7 bucks at a parts store. replace it. just for good measure. it may fix your problem, if not... well it wasn't a waste to have a new one anyways.if you want a fmic kit. go ahead and talk to mangina about getting a vrspeed fmic (he is a vendor on here). they have a great kit and awesome pricing! and it is a very very easy install. first check all of your intercooler piping to make sure it is connected snug. everywhere there is a clamp crank it down n make sure it is tight. you don't need a catchcan. and make sure you reconnect your intercooler piping and have everything tight when you do so. let me know if ya have any other problems or concerns.

Is it a regular valve a hardware store would sell or would I have to order it from like napa? And I just noticed how amazing their kit looks, but $310 (+ shipping I'm guessing) is a little out of my range but hopefully I can make it work.

Don't use a parts store pcv valve, they are pretty much guaranteed to leak under boost. Oem is the only way to go. You can get them from the dealer for less than $10.

A little bit of oil in the intake tract is normal. (you have a line coming from the VC to your intake that is part of the PCV system. You do NOT need a catch can but they look pretty and are functional if you want to keep that little bit out of the intake tract.) I ran the fram FF mod listed here for a bit before I switched to something more pleasing to look @ because I'm very picky.

Excessive oil buildup is a sign of crankcase pressure problems (which it doesn't look like you have).

I don't see how an intercooler could be bad unless the core is leaking. You could just cap off one side and pressure check it yourself and see if it 'leaks'.

I don't know what 2g kit you can get and not have to 'cut' without spending some money, for 1g's I hear cxr has the best short route fit kit, dont know if that's true for you as well.

Do you know if the VR kits not come with them?

Ok thanks for clearing tons of things up, I will. A regular BLT would show me if it is leaky too, correct?

None of the intercooler kits will come with a pcv valve. The pcv valve is a regular maintenance item. It screws into the back left of your valve cover and has a vacuum line connected to it that runs to your intake manifold.
O, I thought it was something that I needed for an intercooler, sorry. I'll definitely go to the dealership and get one soon, do they usually have it in stock?

The OEM ones can leak too. A while back there was a thread on putting one of these in between the PCV valve and the vac line going to the intake:
Check Valves - US Plastic Corporation
It fixes the leaking problems permanently :thumb:

Just so you know your idle surge probably has nothing to do with your intercooler..... make that definitely.

I have that exact check valve on my car along with a oem pcv valve. They are great to help the pcv hold boost beyond stock levels. The parts store valve will leak at stock levels though.

Would a boost leak not cause surge?

A "boost" leak IE: before the throttle body would not. A "vacuum" leak (after throttle body) could... Therefore if he's got a leaky intercooler pipe it would have just about no effect on idle surge.
