Chattering like hell after installing new parts

I just installed a new 2600, TRE tranny, TOB, and shimmed the pivot ball. It has been about 250miles or a little more and the clutch still chatters like a mofo. There are two things that makes me worry. 1st off is the clutch chatter when I'm at a stop. When I start moving from a stop the clutch chatters so much it seems like I'm running a 4-puck with no springs. The engine rocks violently back and forth. The 2nd problem and the one that makes me worry more is when I downshift to a lower gear. For example if step on the clutch and downshift letting the rpms go down to idle then letting them catch up to engine speed I get this seriously horrible chatter. It's not a smooth downshift where the engine rpms slowly rise up. It's kinda bad where I feel like it'll vibrate the tranny off. OMG The clutch doesn't feel heavy like a 2600 feels. It feels more like a 2100. Is it soppose to chatter/shake this much? How do I figure out what is going on?

It shouldn't chatter like that at all. I had a similar problem about a year ago after my first trans rebuild ... turns out I didn't shim the tranny properly when reassembling. Sicne TRE did this I highly doubt this is the case for you, so the only other option is an improper clutch break in. Did you torque all the pressure plate bolts to spec?

My 2100 feels like stock WTF so if it feels stiffer then stock it should be ok. Only thing I can think of is to check your clutch rod adjustments. Maybe your not disenageing all the way or too soon...?

What do you mean by you didn't shim the tranny properly? Because I think that is what I did maybe. I just put a washer behind the clutch fork but it was a loose fit. I thought maybe that had something to do with it. It just faded away into my head without much thought. If I shimmed it wrong, what is the correct way of doing it? I really need to know before I cause more havoc/damage onto my tranny.

When I say shim the tranny I am talking about little shims that get put INSIDE the tranny during a rebuild. This isn't something you can do without taking the transmission apart. If you didn't shim the pivot ball right I don't think you would have chatter ... just disengagement / engagement issues.

We just got my car put back together today after installing a new ACT 2600 and Fidanza flywheel. I put in a new fork and ball and also shimmed the pivot ball. All you do is screw the ball out, put the washer on the ball where it bolts to the trans, and screw the ball back in. I just used a copper turbo oil line cruch washer. After the install the cluch still need lots of adjustment, as it was engaging right off the floor, so I made some adjustments so it now releases about half way up. But I know what you mean about the soft pedal, mine too feels softer than it did when my old 2600 was in, and we even bleed the system properly and I also have a ss clutch line. Maybe it will get stiffer as it gets broken in more. I've had no chatter problems though, hope you figure that out. :thumb:

Did you have your flywheel resurfaced and stepped correctly. I know if you don't that could cause a chatter, mine started to before we put my new one in. Thats the only thing I can think of since your whole clutch assembly is brand new, it shouldn't be causing the chattering. A new clutch should not chatter at all. Good luck. :thumb:
