Does anyone know if any other symptoms could be causing this.

Get in car and startup the engine and battery will charge fine, but after drive around for awhile a get a charging warning light and charging is random.

I am on my 3rd alternator with the same symptom.

last year I had a overcharge issue, that fried the battery, (blew the cells open)

the only other thing I could think would be the ecu, and if so it is off a 95 talon tsi awd, and Im lost to figure out about getting another one or rebuilding it,,.

any thoughts

Wow there must be a run on junk alternators out there this has got to be the tenth alt. FUBAR thread i've seen this month. I would start off with the simple things like corrosion on the terminals, tight clean wire connections from the alt. to the battery. Leaky power steering fluid on the alt., leaky antifreeze on the alt. will also kill an alternator. I would look into another supplier for a alt. or switching to a saturn 1-wire switch.

this problem first occured within 5 hrs of driving car, nothing is leaking on it.no corrosion,,, 3 alternators with same symptom, would make me reluctant on wanting to buy a different alternator, I would better see it being a problem with a different system.

i just afraid if I take it to a electrical shop, they'll just gimme nonsense and blame it on my wiring.

i leaning on a ecu problem.

who else agrees, reason why I this so it that maybe the chipset is failing, is there any other system in the alternator circuit i should check ?

update: i pulled the computer and could not find any signs of capacitor swelling, corrision etc.

If that charging light is coming on after a new alt installation I might suspect the battery (bad cell or two possibly?). Also, I remember I did learn the hard way that after installing a new alt and not charging the battery seperatly, I had that brand new alternator overcharge the system at around 15-16v and literally blew the battery (acid was everywhere).

What I think - bad battery is causing blown regulators in those three alternators.

Get you a Redtop or Yellowtop battery.

When charging up a battery, do it with a battery charger since they will shut off when the battery is fully charged. Don't let the alternator do this for they're not designed to do continual charging - It's just to keep the battery topped off and run the system.

What is the measured voltage at the battery terminals at idle and at 3500 RPM?

If all your bad alternators are coming from the same rebuilding shop, that's your problem.
