charging problem

engine wise it would make it no problem but It wouldnt keep a charge that long you would either have to figure out why it isnt charging or have someone follow you with jumper cables so you could recharge it every 4 or 5 hours. It will only stay running until the battery gets so low then it craps out because its fuel injected. It might be something really minor I dont know I just dont want to bother fixing it . thanks


ps the car is a 96 talon with the 2.0 na and an auto

Check the Alternator fuse in the fuse box near the battery. If it is blown, the car won't re-charge. Otherwise, your alternator or battery could be junk.

Also you may want to check to see if there is a short or drain. If the alt. fuse was bad you would have about 15 minutes of driving time on a full battery so I don't think thats it. To check for drains/shorts: Put a multimeter in line from the positive battery terminal to the positive cable. You should have 30-40 Ma of current being drawn for the clock and for the computer. Anything more and you have a short or drain. Start pulling fuses one by one until the current draw goes down. Good luck and keep us updated-Jon

True but now they are starting to raise the ma draw rate to around 120 for keep alive power on the newer ones. Good to see meter usage instead of guessing.
