charging issue

For the last few months i have been having charging issues. First my alternator when out, so i replaced it. Then the battery died and had to replace the battery. When i took out the alternator a few days ago to have it tested....i noticed that the plug that plugs into the alternator (I'm guessing it for the regulator) that there is a burn mark right in the middle of the plug.

Today i am going to make sure the wire from the alternator to the battery isnt bad but i dont know how to test that plug to see if its bad. any ideas?

Sounds like you have a short ... (burnt mark)

I would take a volt meter and start testing the pins to see where it's coming from...

is there a voltage im looking for or just one thats lower than the others?

Can anybody tell me exactly how to test the pins? does the engine have to be running? what should the voltage be?
